Lisbon has been sought by people all over the globe because of its weather, food and people. But the geography and topography, among a lot other factors, play an important role at defining the Lisbon's magical bright light. Located in the neighbourhood of Lapa, this top floor apartment offers a breathtaking south-facing view to Lisbon's characterful hills and river. Nevertheless, it's long and narrow floorplan mitigates the natural light in and constrains the internal layouts for modern standards.

Our clients, originally from Cape Town, that also shares unique sunlight and stunning sunsets, were blown away by this property and the concept for this project aimed to connect these two places with the light and colour deriving from it.

The prism house was born from a narrative that resonates and refracts the natural light into colours, those that are so embedded in both vibrant cultures. The existing features were filtered and enhanced always when appropriate. Contemporary take on ornamented frames were placed as curtains, setting up stages of light performing throughout the apartment.

Depending on the time of the day, the season of the year, different ambiances are created. Intending to also establish a creative discussion with the clients - brilliant fashion designers - we have tailored the spaces so that textures and layers create depth when combined with the refracted colours of the light spectrum.
